URGENT SAFETY ADVISORY

South Africans in the Middle East Region

Due to heightened regional tensions, all South Africans in the Gulf region and surrounding Middle Eastern countries are strongly urged to remain vigilant, monitor official announcements, and ensure they are registered with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO). You are also strongly encouraged to download the Travel Smart App. DIRCO issued a statement on Thursday 05 March 2025 that so far over 6,400 citizens have registered their presence in the region.

Many nations in the region are calling for residents to follow local advice and guidelines for safety & security and not to spread rumours or publish unverified images and videos on social media. To obtain information only from official and accredited sources. Locals report they’re being urged to refrain from sharing their own content or participating in interviews with the media for security reasons.

All South Africans in the region are urged to register their details with their nearest South African Foreign Mission and provide their full name, passport number and copy of their passport.

For those in Jordan – to also notify the mission of their possibility of evacuation using the Sheikh Hussein Bridge (northern crossing), King Hussein Bridge or Wadi Araba rossing (southern crossing) for evacuation.
